WE�'REAS, the City Council wa o ly recently fully apprised of Police
Department Special Activities Pro r sponsorship of the following 1989
employee sports activities: ski, oc ey, and softball teams, and intramural
sports; and
WEIEREA.S, after extensive del be ations it was concluded that these
specific activities served more o a private interest than a public interest;
and
WI�EREAS, it was also conclud d his represented a benefit uniquely
available to St. Paul Police Depa tm nt employees; and
WHEREAS, it was further conc 'ud d that this type of activity is more
appropriately financed from priva e ather than public funds; and
WHEREAS, it was recognized t ' t the transition of these longstanding
activities from a public to a pri ' t status should be accomplished in an
orderly fashion;
NOW, T'HEREFORE, BE IT RESOL , that the Mayor is hereby respectfully
requested to initiate those actio hich will provide for the transition
of the Police ski, hockey, and so : 11 teams, and intramural sports to a
private status in an expeditious, br erly fashion; and
BE IT FURTHIIZ RESOLUED, that �.t is City Council's intent not to appro-
priate funds for these specific a �i ities after 1989.
