WHERAS, today is the i st anniversary of the Sister
Community Relationship betwe n Saint Paul, United States of
America and Lawaaikamp, South , f ica, and;

WHEREAS, this relationsh p has inspired courage and hope in
both Saint Paul and Lawaaikamp nd;
WHERAS, through dilig 'n work on the part of both
communities, the forced remo a of the Lawaaikamp community by
the South African City of Geor e threatened to take place on May
31, 1988, did not occur, and;
WHEREAS, the community o awaaikamp values the support and
friendship of Saint Paul and o tinues to request our assistance
to prevent their eviction from t eir homes;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RES L D, that the City Council of the
City of Saint Paul renews i s ommitment to the community of
Lawaaikamp, and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that t e ity Council commends the Saint
Paul-Lawaaikamp Sister Commu 'it Support Committee, the Saint
Paul Schools along with thei faculty and students, Camphor
Memorial United Methodist Chur h, Actors Theatre, the colleges
of St. Thomas, St. Catherin , acalester, and Hamline, Friends
for a Non-Violent World, Cler y nd Laity Concerned and the many
other organizations and indiv du ls who have contributed to this
