Pa s of this construction will be impacting some wild areas along Nebraska, and one part of the construction (from Marion to the Wheelock bluffs) ' will be going th ough an unimproved part of Nebraska. NEBRASKA PART 1 ' Nebraska Ave ue from Marion Street west, to Farrington Street. ' The areas desi nated with the above symbol, are the areas with trees, that will , be impacted by the construction (See MAP 1 and PHOTO A). The constructio through this unimproved section of Nebraska will cause the ' direct removal f about 30 Boxelder and Cottonwood trees, and root damage to about 10 more. ' To maintain con istency with the rest of the trees in this area, it is recommended t at these 40 trees be replanted with 40 Siouxland Poplar. This is ' a seedless cott nwood and has the same growth characteristics as the native cottonwood, in ddition it is a rapid grower. The understory of boxelder will fill in on its own wit in a short time (approximately 1 year). ' NEBRASKA ART 2 , Nebraska Aven e from Marion Street, east to Rice Street. ' The areas desig ated with the above symbol, are the areas with trees, that will be impacted by t e construction (See MAP 2 and PHOTO'S B and C). , At the present ti e it is unsure how many, if any, trees will have to be removed ' due to sewer co truction along this section of Nebraska. However, if construction doe have to remove any trees on this section of Nebraska, it is recommended th t in order to maintain consistency with the rest of the trees in this area, that th e trees also be replanted with Siouxland Poplar. This ea will serve as a temporary water retention area for stormwater ru off. ' CONSTRUCTION PLAN Enclosed is a aerial photo showing the various types of construction that will occur in this ea. , The guide to e various colors of the map is as follows: I UNCOLORE This area will emain undisturbed as much as possible except for the removal of ' dead trees an the clearance needed for the water channel. Any areas that are disturbed will e replanted as necessary with the same species of plants ' already prese t (Cord grass, Cattails, etc. See Photo 1). YELLOW ' This area will have minimal disturbance with all areas restored. Grading will take place in his area along with some tree removal. Where possible, single trees will be s ved (See replanting plan, Figure 1, and Photo 2), and the area will ' be replanted. ' ORANGE This area will receive major construction activity, but will be restored and replanted (Se replanting plan). ' GREEN ' This area will Iso receive major construction activity. This includes the levee itself, plus th grading necessary to create the water basin. Reptanting will take place in his area, but it will be modified to fit the new contours and uses , of the area (S e replanting plan). NA IVE TREE REPLANTING AREA The e areas will be planted back into Cottonwood (Siouxland Poplar), , with the west area also receiving a grove of Tamarack. 2. WE GRASSES AREA , This area will be replanted using native grasses that will tolerate peri dic flooding. These grasses include Big Bluestem, Cord Grass, ' Can da Wild Rye, Switchgrass, and a mixture of native wildflowers. 3. EV RGREEN PLANTING ' This area is the boulevard that will be fronting the levee. The planting that ill take place here is a row of White Spruce planted about 15' ' apa . The purpose of this row of trees is to screen the view of the leve and to try and make a living fence along Arlington in an attempt to red ce the amount of four-wheel A.T.V., and dirt bike traffic on the ' leve . Planting will take place along the entire front of the levee exc pt in front of the two spillways (a total of 200 feet will not be ' pla ed). 4. WE GRASSES WITH TREES ' Thi area will also be replanted using native grasses that will tolerate peri dic flooding. These grasses include Big Bluestem, Cord Grass, , Ca da Wild Rye, Switchgrass, and a mixture of native wildflowers. But in a dition to these grasses a few water tolerant trees, such as Will ws, will also be planted in this area. ' 5 NA IVE GRASSES AND WILDFLOWERS Thi upland area will be replanted using native grasses. These grasses ' incl de Big Bluestem, Indiangrass, Switchgrass, Little Bluestem, Sid oats Grama, Perennial Ryegrass, and native wildflowers. , 6. MO ED GRASSES Be use the grasses on the levee will have to be mowed periodically, ' nati e grasses will not be suitable. Therefore, replanting for this area will onsist of a mix of Kentucky Bluegrass, alfalfa, and Perennial ' Ry rass. The mixture of grasses for the areas requiring mowing is not fina ized yet. The necessity of mowing and how often if it required are not inal yet, so this grass mixture could change.
