2 WHEREAS, the way to re�ce the incidence of se�cual abuse is to change attitudes and people
3 who work in schools and recre�lon centers can, with training, help support change in the attitudes
4 that foster sexual violence; and �,�

6 WHEREAS, Recreatio� Center lead��s have the opportunity to identify child sexual abuse and
7 respond to children and youth; and

t) WHEREAS, the incide�nce of se�al hanas�ment and sexual assault between youth is a serious
l0 problem in Saint Paul �nd recreation center''�taff inembers are able to respond appropriately if
11 trained; and

i> WHEREAS, the Minn�sota Department of Human Resources has developed the Sexual Health and
" ' Responsibility Program (SHARP) curriculum suitab�e for use with junior high school age children;

!�l WHEREAS, many teachers and administrative staff peo�le in schools have had this training to help
!:j them identify at-risk yanth and to address se�al harrassm8�t in the schools; and

''1 have the resources available to provide a trainer for SHARP at�.no cost to the city; therefore be it

�:� RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council shall provide $2000� or the purchase of SHARP
?=� training manuals and videos for the training of all Saint Paul Recre tion Center Directors, Leaders
2.�i and Aides in conjuncti4n with routine Department staff training. �
