I Green Sheet # /�0�� RESOLUTION CITY OF SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA Presented By � Referred To Committee: Date 1 2 3 A RESO�.UTION CONCERNING FUNDING FOR PROSECUTIONS 4 OF GROSS MISDEMEANORS 5 6 7 WHEREAS, the State I,.egislature regularly adds to the list of crimes classified as gross 8 misdemeanors; and ' 9 10 WHEREAS, the City's �riminal Division is not adequately staffed to handle the increasing caseload 11 produced by these legislative changes; and 12 13 WHEREAS, the City is �in need of a revenue source for coping with the heavier caseload; 14 15 NOW, THEREFQRE, $E TT RESOLVED, that the City of St. Paul urges the Minnesota 16 Legislature to address the increasing cost associated with prosecuting gross misdemeanors by: 17 18 (1) Adopting legislatidn that requires that a portion of the fines collected in any criminal 19 prosecution �e paid to the political subdivision with prosecuting authority for the crime, or 20 21 (2) Authorizing special levy authority for the prosecution of gross misdemeanor offenses.
