T0: Barb Jeanetta FR: Councilmember Roger Goswitz RE: Use of Promote St. Paul Funds For the past 3 months, I have been working with the Johnson Area Hockey Association who is sponsoring a International Pee Wee Hockey Tournament to be held in St. Paul from January 8 through January 13. Tournament participants include teams from Japan, Korea, Canada, Nebraska, and Utah as well as 8 metro area teams. As noted in the attached resolution, the City Council encouraged the Johnson Area Hockey Association to host this tournament. I believe that the City has an unique opportunity to Promote St. Paul and at the same time provide some needed financial assistance to the Hockey Association. Each year, we bude $15,000 in an Special Projects General Government Accounts Fund Activ9ty called Promote St. Paul : City Funding Leverage (050-30108) This fund is financed by the Hotel/Motel Tax and is designated for projects designed to help Promote St. Paul . I propose using $4,000 from that fund to pay for: 1. Retal of Roy Wilkins Auditorium for the Opening Ceremony Banquet held on Wednesday, January 9, 1991. The Opening Banquet will be attended by the young participants, their coaches and host families, tournament officials, tournament sponsors and City officials. 2. Transportation for the two Japanese teams, the Korean team, and the two Canadian teams to tour St. Paul on Tuesday, January 8, 1991 including a trip to the State Capital , City Nall and a shopping trip in downtown S . Paul . 3. Costs as',sociated with hosting a special event day at Como Park on Sunday, ;Janualry 6, 1991. All tournament participants, coaches, host families',, offcials and sponsors will be invited to see the animals at Como Zoo, xmell the flowers at Como Conservatory, ice skate on Como Lakie and downhill or cross-country ski on the Como Golf Course.
