3 WHEREAS, the 15 to 4-year-old age group is dying at a rate faster than any other age group as a
4 direct result of the 'su e or abuse of chemical substances; and

6 WHEREAS, The S int aul School District, 3M and U.S. West are sponsoring events and
7 activities to educate stud nts and encourage them to pledge a commitment to a drug-free lifestyle;
8 and

10 WHEREAS, sever bu inesses and organizations are offering their employees, members and
11 customers an opport ni to demonstrate a commitment to drug free lifestyles including:

23 WHEREAS, Octab r 2 through 27, 1990 is National Red Ribbon Week; and

25 WHEREAS, busi� ss, overnment, law enforcement, schools, religious institutions, service
26 organizations, yout , p ysicians, senior citizens, military, sports teams, and individuals will
27 demonstrate their G tment to drug free, healthy lifestyles by wearing and displaying red ribbons
28 during this week-ld ca paign; now, therefore, be it

2 RESOLVED, that he ouncil of the City of Saint Paul does hereby declare the week of October
3 21-27 RED RIBBO EK in Saint Paul; and be it further ,

5 RESOLVED, that he ouncil encourages city employees and Saint Paul citizens to participate in
6 drug prevention edu ati n activities and to make a visible statement that we are strongly committed
7 to working toward a dru free community; and be it further

9 RESOLVED, that ity mployees and city residents are encouraged to pledge:
