4 WHEREAS, thousands of Saint Paulites routinely rely upon the Saint Paul Farmers Market as a
s reliable source ofiocally-grown fruits, vegetables and flowers; and

� WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Farmers Market provides a market for dozens of locat growers and
s other vendors; and

io WHEREAS, City government currently is evaluating future pians for the Saint Paul Farmers
ii Mazket, including the possibilities of expansion and re]ocation; and

13 WHEIiEAS, the Friends of the Saint Paui Farmers Market, a non-profit corporation dedicated to
i4 the improvement and promotion of the Saint Paul Farmers Market, is working in partnership with City
is government through the course of this evaluation; and

i� WHEREAS, the Friends of the Saint Paul Farmers Market has requesied Deputy Mayor Tom
ia Fabel, as a representative of the City, join a representative of that organization at their Fourth
19 International Public Market Conference in Seattle, Washington from 5eptember 23-26, 1998, for the
2o purpose of expanding knowledge regarding markets similar to the Saint Paul Farmers Market throughout
zi the world; and

z3 WHEREAS, it is in the public interest for a City representative to attend and participate in this
z4 conference, and

2 e WHEREAS, the Friends of the Saint Paul Farmers Market has generously offered to contribute
2 � the costs of travel, accommodations, and conference expenses to enable Deputy Mayor Fabel to attend
2s this conference.
