INITIATING ACTION This project is being initiated by a request from the Farmland Industries Inc. which represents approximately 15% of the assessable property. _ EXISTING CONDITIONS Alabama street is a traveled dirt street, but In the last few years Public Works has been oiling and patching it. The grade is quite flat and there are many potholes. A storm sewer and water main are in place for the length of this project and a sanitary sewer is in place between State St. and Lafayette Rd. Four wood pole street lights provide the lighting. PROPOSEDIMPROVEMENTS We would construct the street to a width of 36 feet (where possible) with concrete curb and gutter and a 9 ton load bituminous pavement. This wider width and heavier loading is necessary to handle the heavy trucks using this street. Sanitary sewer would be installed in Alabama St. from Lafayette Rd. to Chester St. and in Chester St. from Alabama St. to 225 ft. north. Street lighting would be the "bent straw" type. ALTERNATES The street could be constructed to a residential street standard, but within a few years the heavy trucks would cause pavement failures and the street would become a constant maintenance problem. A narrower street would not allow the large trucks adequate turning space for ingress or egress. Make no permanent improvements and having the Department of Public Works fill the holes with gravel and do a certain amount of shaping and blading. This would give temporary relief, but a street this flat will soon develop puddles and mud holes again. . . , _ . . . qol ESTIMATED COST AND FINANCING Total Rate Financing Improvement Cost Per Ft.
