WHEREAS, a federal grant has been received from the Minnesota Historical Society to
write the third chapter of a comprehensive, well-illustrated book on the
architectual history of St. Paul; and
WHEREAS, expenditures for consultant services to complete the third chapter are now
projected to be $6,600 over the revised 1990 budget; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the City Charter, does certify
that there are available for appropriation revenues in excess of those estimated in
the 1990 budget; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor recommends the following changes to the 1990 budget:

The Department of Planning and EconQmjc peVelopment has received a $6,600 grant from the
Minnesota Historica1 Society to write a comprehensive, we11-i1lustrated book on the �..�_.. .�__. . .�:
architectural history of St. Pau1 . The book wi11 be written for a genera1 audience, with a
level of research and documentation sufficient for academic use, and will further knowledge
and appreciation of the history and architecture of our city. The first two chapters have
already been written. This grant would be used to hire a consultant to comp1ete the third
chapter by August 1990.
ADVANTIUiES IF APPROVED:
A consultant will be hired to write the third of� four chapters of a book on the
architectural history of St. Paul . In helping us discover our city's roots and identi�y
through our historic buildings, the book wi11 also help us build a sense of communi�,y,�
