3 SAINT PAUL ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVE AWARD

6 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is a city concerned about environmental protection for those
7 people living and working in our community; and
8
9 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul has an interest in improving the environmental awareness of
10 those people living and working in our community; and
11
12 WHEREAS, the City Council has passed resolutions supporting Earth Day 1990 and Earth Week
13 1990; and
14
15 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul would like to continue its support for Earth Day into the future
16 and seeks ways to draw attention to environmental issues on an ongoing basis by keeping the spirit
17 of Earth Day alive in the future; and
18
19 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul understands that one way to encourage environmental
20 awareness is to recognize those individuals, organizations, and businesses that have shown
21 environmental awareness in actions that have benefited the citizens of Saint Paul;
22
23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE TT RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul will annually present the
24 Saint Paul Environmental Achievement Award to the individual, organization or business whose
25 actions have most shown an understanding and a concern for the environmental needs of the
26 citizens of Saint Paul; and

2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City will organize a process by which the recipient of the
3 award shall be chosen annually; and
4
5 BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul Environmental Achievement Award will be
6 awarded jointly by the City Council and the Mayor on or near every Apri122, Earth Day, to help
7 draw attention to environmental issues concerning the citizens of Saint Paul.
