98-679Council File # � - G R9 Green Sheet # 60529 Presentea Referred To Comurittee Date 1 WHEREAS, Don Winger was bom and raised in 5aint Paul and remained a long time East Side resident; and 2 3 4 5 WHEREAS, Don Winger has been a Saint Paul Police Officer since May 22, 1972; and WHEREAS, Don Winger is part of a family tradition of Saint Paul Police Officers including two brothers; Kazsten "Rocky" Winger and Larry Winger as well as his nephew Karsten "7eff" Winger; and WHEI2EAS, Don Winger has demonstrated himself as being a skilled and caring officer as evidenced in over seventy-£ive unit letters, letters of commendation and thank you letters; and 7 WHEItEAS, these letters aze representative of indiv3dual citizens, schools, religious organizations, politicians, small 8 businesses, major corporations, policing organizations, citizen groups; and 9 WI-�REAS, these people and groups are representative of the Community and demonstrate the value of Community 10 Policing which Don Winger has championed in Saint Paul; and 11 WHEREAS, Don Winger has proven himself to be a valuable asset to Saint Paul's Police Department and now his 12 value has been recognized by the City of Maplewood who has hired him to become their next Chief of Police; now 13 THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council, as representatives of its residents, does hereby 14 officially recognize and thank Commander pon Winger for his many yeus of service to our community and wishes 15 him well on his newest endeavor as Maplewood, Minnesota s new Chief of Police.
